Democratic Party Hopes Roots, B.o.B Energize Voters

Last month’s B.o.B concert helped the DNC raise 1.75 million, and they hope to continue momentum with the help of the Roots.

On September 30, B.o.B headlined the Gen44 Kickoff concert. The performance was part of a three-day campaign swing that also saw the Commander in Chief attend a prime rib dinner at the house of former Director of Communications for the White House Office of Health Reform, Linda Douglass. The New York Times reports the Democratic National Committee raised an estimated $1.75 million at both events.

The fundraising will continue over the weekend during the DNC’s second annual “Moving America Forward” rally at a park in Germantown, Pennsylvania. The Roots will be on hand, along with other musical guests in an effort to energize Democratic voters.

“We are excited to have The Roots perform in Philadelphia at the second ‘Moving America Forward’ rally with President Obama as part of the Democratic Party’s Fall campaign push to energize voters heading into the final weeks of the campaign,” said DNC Chairman Tim Kaine in a prepared statement. “It’s great to have The Roots playing in front of a hometown crowd to rally supporters of the President.”

Roots drummer/producer and de facto spokesman ?uestlove campaigned for then Senator Obama on the 2008 ticket, and also credits the President for helping to inspire his most recent release.

“I was in the middle of campaigning for Barack Obama and feeling inspired by the atmosphere in the country at the time, so I wanted to do something musically that reflected that moment,” ?uestlove told Billboard, in regards to the Roots and John Legend’s Wake Up album.

The Moving America Forward Rally takes place at 4:00 p.m. on October 10, across from Robert Fulton Elementary School at 60 E. Haines Street in Germantown. Admission is free, but guests are asked to RSVP at http://pa.barackobama.com/PhillyMAF.
