News Bits: Freeway, Newtroit Records, Kanye West
Freeway working on new album, Newtroit Records re-launches, and Kanye West announces “Good Fridays.”
Philly rapper Freeway has announced that he will be teaming up with producer Just Blaze for a new album entitled Diamond In The Rough. The rapper revealed the news in a video interview with KarmaLoop TV.
“Right now, I’m cooking up a new album. It’s called Diamond In The Rough, which is gonna be bananas,” Freeway explained. “I feel as though, what I got so far, this is the album that should have came after Philadelphia Freeway. Like, it’s crazy. We got a bunch of joints, it’s bananas, trust me, when y’all hear it, you’re gonna go crazy.”
Freeway also revealed to fans that he’ll be releasing the Jake One produced track “Beautiful Music” in the near future. There’s no word on when Diamond In The Rough will be released.
In other Hip Hop news, thirty years after Newtroit Records was established the label is preparing for a re-launch.
The re-launched label’s first signees include Detroit’s Northend Records and David Ruffin’s grandson Ruff.
“The Ruffin family has adopted me, and treats me like one of their own. When my mother recently passed, Sandra Ruffin reached out to console me immediately. That’s family,” said Spyder, a rapper who was once signed to the label, in a statement. “That’s what we are building here, a musical family. My mom would be extremely proud of this moment.”
In a Tweet made over the weekend (August 22), rapper Kanye West announced that he will soon kick off what he’s dubbed “Good Fridays.” As part of “Good Fridays” West will release a new song every weekend up until Christmas.
“I know yall need the music so I’m dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song it may be a new Jay song etc…I’m calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now,” said West via Twitter.
